Chief Executive Officer
John McLain attended Georgia State University, where he earned his Master in Healthcare Administration/Master in Business Administration degree after obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Religion from Emory University.
John began his career at Venice Regional Bayfront Health in February of 2016 with a long history of executive healthcare experience. Most recently, John has served as CEO, Executive Vice president/Chief Operating Officer and Assistant Administrator. In his role as a healthcare executive, John’s responsibilities have included oversight of system-wide strategic planning and execution of tactical strategies. He has led efforts to improve the patient experience and enhance patients’ access to services. In addition to developing new lines of service, John also has consistently increased quality and performance wherever he served. His continued proven ability to establish and meet strategic, financial and operational targets, while keeping focus on patient care are keys to his success.
Chief Operating Officer
Kristen Gentry attended Ohio Northern University where she received an undergraduate degree in Business Management with a minor in BioMedical Sciences. She then went on to acquire her Master’s Degree at the University of Michigan in Public Health.
Kristen began her career with Health Management Association in May 2006 as the Associate Administrator of Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda, FL. She spent over three years with Charlotte Regional before being promoted to the Chief Operating Officer of Highlands Regional Medical Center in Highlands, FL. In May 2012 Kristen joined Venice Regional Bayfront Health as Chief Operating Officer.
Chief Financial Officer (interim)
Maria Caruso began her healthcare career in 2007 at the corporate office of Community Health Systems Professional Services Corporation (CHSPSC) in Franklin, Tennessee. After a number of years working in several departments in the corporate healthcare office, Maria transitioned to the hospital setting. Prior to coming to Venice Regional, Maria served as the Controller for Deaconess and Valley Hospital in Spokane, Washington. Maria attended the University of Florida, where she received her undergraduate degree in business with a minor in economics. She went on to complete her master's degree, with a specialization in finance, through Argosy University.
Chief Quality Officer
Karlene Pietranton is a healthcare leader with over 30 years of broad experience in nursing practice and leadership. Her career experience includes nursing management, quality improvement, performance improvement, resource management, regulatory compliance and patient safety. Ms. Pietranton received her Bachelor’s degree at West Virginia State University.
Karlene has worked in the Quality Department at Venice Regional Bayfront Health for the past 14 years successfully implementing quality improvement strategies. Prior to joining Venice Regional Bayfront Health, Karlene served as the Executive Director at Norton Healthcare in Louisville, Kentucky.
Interim Chief Nursing Officer
Over the past ten years, Reece has served in CEO, CNO and chief quality officer roles at hospitals in South Carolina after beginning his career as a paramedic and registered nurse. Reece earned a bachelor’s degree in emergency medical care from Western Carolina University, associate’s degree in nursing from Carolinas College of Health Science, and masters’ degrees in nursing and business administration from University of Phoenix.
